A blackbody furnace with emissivity of 0.995 or higher will be released on Friday, August 30th. This makes it possible to minimize the effects of background radiation.
CHINO Corporation (Itabashi-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Mikio Toyoda; TSE Prime: 6850) will release the "High emissivity Flat blackbody Furnace IR-R41" on Friday, August 30, 2024, which is suitable for calibrating and inspecting thermographs and infrared radiation thermometer.
The "High emissivity Flat blackbody Furnace IR-R41" being released this time is an improved version of the IR-R40, which was development in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), a National Research and development Agency, and released on March 29, 2023.
The previous model, IR-R40, was primarily intended for calibration around body temperature, so higher limit of the calibration temperature range was 50°C, but the newly released IR-R41 has an expanded calibration temperature range of -15°C to 120°C so that it can be used for other purposes. In addition, the emitting surface size has been expanded from 60mm square to 100mm square.

Expanded calibration temperature range and radiating surface size
We development the IR-R40 in collaboration with AIST as an on-site standard blackbody furnace for thermography and radiation thermometer used for screening during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conventional flat blackbody furnaces have issues with insufficient emissivity and are easily affected by background radiation, but by using AIST's blackbody technology, we have made it possible to put into practical use a flat blackbody furnace with high emissivity. The IR-R40 was lightweight and compact to enable on-site mounting on a tripod, but higher limit of the calibration temperature range was 50°C because its main purpose was calibration near body temperature. The IR-R41 was development with an expanded calibration temperature range and radiating surface size so that it can also be used to calibrate and inspect various thermography and infrared radiation thermometer.
Features
- High emissivity ε = 0.995 or higher
To know the accurate temperature, it is important to make emissivity ε as close to 1 as possible. Compared to emissivity of a typical flat blackbody furnace, which is 0.96 to 0.98, this furnace has a high emissivity of 0.995, which minimizes the effect of reflections from background radiation, enabling more accurate temperature measurements to be achieved.- Tabletop installation (unit can be connected)
Because blackbody unit and control unit are separate, there is a high degree of freedom in installation. For example, control unit 's operation panel can be faced toward the operator and blackbody unit can be faced to the side, making it possible to accommodate many situations.- Compact, lightweight, and easy operation
- With communication interface
- Buzzer sounds when calibration temperature is stable
