We calibrate thermocouples in-house, but do we need to calibrate the compensation leads that connect them? Normally, sensors are calibrated separately, but if compensation leads are used in the middle of the process, won't there be an error due to the compensation leads?
Generally, compensation leads are not calibrated, but compensation leads also have errors. If you are concerned about accuracy, you can use an insulated thermocouple instead of a compensation lead, or you can use a precision-grade compensation lead.
